Three Purcellville residents dead in Warren County crash
Monday, Sep. 6 by Crystal Owens

Three Purcellville residents died Sunday and four other people were injured in a crash on Route 55 in Warren County.

Robert Frederick Louer, 65, of Green Cove Springs, Fla., was driving the 2008 Chevrolet Suburban east on Route 55 about one-tenth of a mile west of Route 614when he ran off the right side of the road, over-corrected, came back on the road, and again went off the right side of the road, down an embankment, and then struck a tree at about 2 p.m., according to Virginia State Police Sgt. Les Tyler said.

Killed at the scene were Edward Enoch “Ted” Nichols III, 64; his wife, Karen Nichols, 63; and Doris Degraw Louer, 90, all of Purcellville, Tyler said.

Passengers Marilyn F. Louer, 62, and Cynthia Louer Fusselle, 51, were flown from the scene to Inova Fairfax Hospital. The driver and passenger David Louer, 71, were taken to Warren Memorial Hospital.

The extent of their injuries is unknown.

Tyler said all of the occupants were wearing seat belts and alcohol was not a factor.

The crash is under investigation.

Anyone have an idea on controlling stinkbugs?  They have destroyed my tomato and pepper crop and they are moving back indoors soon.  My only possible hope is diatomaceous earth but I am not really hopeful.  I will not use pesticides either.

I would not have believed it if I had not seen it. A buck with two does in escort approached my garden with a confident amble.  If I knew now what he was going to do I would have shooed them away then, but as fate would have it I myself ambled back inside, confident that my deer fence would do the job it has done for the past year and a half.  Little did I know that this particular buck has asked his two lady friends out to dinner, and my nice raised bed was the restaurant.

A few minutes later, as I looked down from an upstairs window, Mr. Buck took his horns, (a solid eight points), and with the skill of a fencing artist (pun intended), ripped an opening in my fence and escorted his two lady friends in.  I watched as they ambled again, this time up to the fresh greens (my pepper plants), and started munching.  By the time I got down there and yelled to scare them away the damage had already been done.

Luckily I have some peppers in the freezer.  I am know looking for a venison pepper recipe, cause If that buck comes around again I just might (only if the season is right Wink ) cash in....  Dear me, did I say that out loud?

Yep, this a certainly an much talked about issue.  I saw their celebration on BBC news, and it was quite a widespread party.  Ha..I simply commented the next day the following.
"Wow those folks in Iraq sure did celebrate the combat troops leaving",

Now that was certainly a simple statement of fact, but I unintentionally sure stirred up a hornets nest of opinion.  Once the various fractions got really discussing it good and loud I tip toed from the room...

I always did like Snagglepuss....Exit Stage right.... Roll Eyes

Neighbors rally to help canine hero.

http://www.abcactionnews.com/dpp/lifestyle/pets/heroic-wash.-dog-rescues-child%3B-community-saves-blazer

Byline: Brynn Grimley; Kitsap Sun

A beloved border collie who tracked down a missing child became a neighborhood hero.

Now Kitsap County folks are returning the favor by covering a $3,000 medical bill to amputate Blazer's hind leg after he was discovered tied up with plastic wire.

Blazer disappeared from the Roller family's home Aug. 5. The 7-year-old border collie was found early this week near a school with plastic wire zip ties around three of his four legs just above his paws.

"They said if he would have stayed outside one more night, he would have died," said David Roller. "There was no way he could have made it home."

The family said it clear the injuries were caused by humans. There is a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever abused Blazer.

"The really special thing about Blazer is his favorite game is search and rescue," said Katie Roller, David's wife.

That training came in handy recently when a neighbor's child got lost in the woods near their home. Katie Roller sent Blazer out and he found the child.

Blazer vanished the same day Katie Roller was in a serious car accident, leaving the family to wonder if he was trying to find her when she didn't come home.

Her car was totaled and she was hospitalized with a severed artery in her leg. Her leg was almost amputated, and it could still be if it doesn't heal properly, she said.

The Roller family is struggling financially so the vet bill hit them hard.

"We've never asked anybody for help, but we decided we needed to tell people someone mutilated our dog and we need help,"she said.

"He's just a really beloved animal in our whole neighborhood," Katie Roller said.

BAGHDAD — Iraqi forces assumed formal control of Baghdad and other cities Tuesday after American troops handed over security in urban areas in a defining step toward ending the U.S. combat role in the country. A countdown clock broadcast on Iraqi TV ticked to zero as the midnight deadline passed for U.S. combat troops to finish their pullback to bases outside cities.

"The withdrawal of American troops is completed now from all cities after everything they sacrificed for the sake of security," said Sadiq al-Rikabi, a senior adviser to Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. "We are now celebrating the restoration of sovereignty."

The Pentagon did not offer any comment to mark the passing of the deadline.

Fireworks, not bombings, colored the Baghdad skyline late Monday, and thousands attended a party in a park where singers performed patriotic songs. Loudspeakers at police stations and military checkpoints played recordings of similar tunes throughout the day, as Iraqi military vehicles decorated with flowers and national flags patrolled the capital.

"All of us are happy — Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds on this day," Waleed al-Bahadili said as he celebrated at the park. "The Americans harmed and insulted us too much."

Al-Maliki declared a public holiday and proclaimed June 30 as "National Sovereignty Day."

Midnight's handover to Iraqi forces filled many citizens with pride but also trepidation that government forces are not ready and that violence will rise. Shiites fear more bombings by Sunni militants; Sunnis fear that the Shiite-dominated Iraqi security forces will give them little protection.
